You did what? This is what I heard when I told my Dad and my manager at my real job, that I had actually gone fishing yesterday, on April 11th. Yep, having two jobs and a couple of kids will take a 3 outings-a-week fisherman and turn him or her into a 3 times a monther. Is monther a word? My computer keeps trying to turn it into mother.
Anyway, I drove over to my buddies and jumped into his truck for a quick try at some early walleyes on the Wisconsin River. Lots of boats and others on shore. It was a perfect. A 60 degree day that even had a couple of guys soakin up the sun without their shirts on. These guys were casting some serious belly shadows on the water, but even in those dark, rolly polly gu t shadows, I saw a few fish succumb to their presentations. In our two hours of fishing between beers, we managed 4 fish out of 5 bites. Three walleyes and one crappie was our catch of the day and all were let go to be caught again.
Feeling that first fish on a jig and minnow on a beautiful day complete with cold beer and good talk made it a perfect start of the year. John’s boat and motor worked perfectly, even the trailer lights! This opening day for us ended with a male osprey bringing a fish to his lady that was nesting on a platform on one of the power lines that span across the river. Looks like even the birds had a great day of fishing.
