I have taken a stab at turkey hunting this spring. My tag is not until the end of May, but I have taken my nephew out for the youth hunt and my gone with my wife the past few days. We had some toms around us and some hens move through with my nephew but no shots were fired. On my wifes hunts, we had some neat action. On Day 1, we had a tom working around us. He wouldn't come in to the decoys but was all around us. Until a jake came in. At that point he ran in, chased the jake off and was gone. All of this happened so fast that there was no time for a good shot. Day 2 provided 1 hen coming in and the toms weren't talking. Day 3 was fun. 3 toms were gobbling right at daylight. They were moving in the woods off the edge of the field we were on for about an hour. Then one appeared on the field. He was running with 8 jakes. It was really neat to see all those birds. They worked our way. I am a newbie to turkey hunting. I found a gobbler call and a hen call worked together got this tom to move in our direction fast. He was mad and wanted to see where this other tom was in relation to our hen decoys. When he was 28 yards away my wife dropped the bomb on him. She got a 20 lb tom with a 10" beard. I am proud of her. It was more fun to see her excitement than it would have been to shoot it myself. Great times! Check out this photo!!
